Why You Should Plan Your Winter Getaway Now

NEWSLETTER #008

It's time to think about your Holiday Plans - yes, in the middle of summer!

Planning Ahead = Travel Bliss Later
We know—it’s the middle of summer. But come December, when the wind is icy and the snowblower won’t start, you’ll wish you were sipping rum punch in Roatán. So let’s get ahead of the cold and start planning your tropical winter escape now.

Why Roatán?
Because it’s 80° and sunny when your driveway is buried in snow. Roatán, Honduras is part of the Bay Islands, home to the second-largest reef in the world, laid-back vibes, and some of the best beach lounging we’ve ever experienced. December through February is prime time to visit—and it books up fast!

Plan Like a Pro (We’ll Show You How)
In our full Roatán Travel Guide, we’ve included:

  • Where to stay (with personal picks!)
  • What to eat (hint: lobster in coconut milk)
  • Packing tips for sand, sun, and snorkeling
  • How to book excursions, avoid sand fleas, and make the most of your time

You don’t have to settle for another freezing winter. Make this the year you celebrate the holidays in flip-flops instead of fleece. We’ve done the legwork (and the beach lounging) so you can just show up and relax.
Let’s turn “someday” into today - with a tropical twist.

Roatán: 15 Random Tips from the Traveling Twosome

  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen and bug spray—and coconut oil for sand fleas. Trust us on this one.
  • Water taxis > regular taxis when bouncing between West End and West Bay.
  • You’ll overpack. All you really need are sandals, water shoes, Swim suit, a rash guard, and a breezy outfit or two.
  • Island Time is a real thing, — service is on island time, especially at beach bars.
  • Try a Monkey Lala. It’s like a boozy milkshake and tastes way better than it sounds.
  • Use WhatsApp to contact drivers, guides, and excursion companies—they all use it.
  • Avoid cruise ship days for popular beaches and attractions—they get crowded fast.
  • Bring a refillable water bottle. Most hotels have water stations so you don’t pay for bottles all week.
  • English is widely spoken, especially on the west side—but “Gracias” still goes a long way.
  • Pack light, breathable clothes. You won’t need anything fancy—beach casual is the island uniform, and it is HOT.
  • Ask your taxi driver for recs. Ours gave us the best tips on where to eat and what to skip.
  • Get to the airport early when flying home—you’ll go through customs twice.
  • You can snorkel straight from the beach in West Bay—no boat required.
  • Don’t stress about planning everything. Walk along the beach and book activities on the fly.
  • Baleadas and lobster in coconut milk are non-negotiable. Eat them both. Possibly twice.
